Franck tortiller duet : vibraphon-marima and percussion

Duet Tortiller Héral

Vibraphon-marimba and percussion: An unending voyage in a universe of sound that mixes electronics, samplers, acoustic sounds, melodies, all types of groove, and above all a great deal of improvisation…

Franck Tortiller Duet

The duet also plays with other groups, most particularly with Z Quartet, with whom they play Franck Tortiller’s composition Cinq cépages pour quatuor à cordes et percussions (Five grapevines for a string quartet and drums).

Like the growing and making of good wine, the music takes shape from the bringing together of different hues and flavors: the written composition merges with improvisation, the rhythms of the drums cross and answer the multiple sonorities of the strings. The melodies are inspired by the traditional dance music of different wine-growing regions.

The string quartet is the central element that brings about the ensemble’s musical “fermentation”. While Tortiller’s composition remains very classical, it provides a wide harmonic and melodic opening and offers the improvisers an ideal bridge between classical music and jazz.
