With Sentimental 3/4, Franck Tortiller’s Orchestra pays a wonderful tribute to that music in triple time that is also a dance for couples – the waltz. The album represents a sort of return to origins for this musical composer who took his first dance steps at his father’s sides!
With the special addition of an accordion, the jazz orchestra offers its own take on this traditional musical form, producing a harmonious program that alternates between original pieces and reinterpretations of the classics of musette:
Domino, by Jouis Ferrari and Jacques Plante
Douce Joie, by Gus Viseur
Impasse des Vertus, by Tony Murena.

Franck Tortiller, who composed half of the pieces on the album, also gives their due to his musicians and composing collaborators. An approach that takes us from France (Rue aux fromages by Eric Séva, arranged by Jean Gobinet) to Mexico (Danzo oval by Vincent Limouzin and Gilles Selince), with a passage through Asia (Sarahoui by Michel Marre). Proof, if any is needed, that the waltz has no boundaries and draws its origins from the four corners of the world !
A program that is uncharacteristically voluptuous and moving for this musical genre, described by Toots Thielemans as the “blues of Europe”.
